Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer stay connected by exchanging daily voice memos to share life's big and small moments

Kinsey reunited with The Office cast for an AT&T Business short film highlighting small business experiences

Kinsey's kids recently started watching The Office with her, but think her character, Angela Martin, was too mean to Phyllis Vance

Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer "love to hear" everything about each other, even years after The Office ended.

The former costars and co-hosts of the Office Ladies podcast have a special method to communicate with each other, as Kinsey, 54, revealed exclusively to PEOPLE at the AT&T Business Small Business Appreciation event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, May 27.

"I mean, Rainn Wilson has always said that the two of us love to talk to each other, and I guess that's true," Kinsey said about her and Fischer, 52. "And that we love to hear every nuance about everything in each other's lives. My favorite thing, because we trade voice memos every day. It's how we stay connected."

She explained that they prefer it because they just "want to hear your voice, you know?"

"Because, I don't know, there's things in text that I can't hear. Like, if you're frustrated or tired or you know, and the ups and downs and the joys and the big moments and the small moments," Kinsey added. "And I just think it's really special, and I love her dearly."

Kinsey joined fellow Office alums Craig Robinson, Creed Bratton, Oscar Nuñez and Ellie Kemper at the AT&T Business panel, where she also discussed the group chat that helps the costars stay connected.

“Interestingly enough, I feel like Rainn checks in the most, which is very sweet, and I don't think anyone's annoying, but the most random will be Creed, and I think that's very on brand,” Kinsey said. “One time, he made a little Christmas song with a Santa hat that flopped around. You never know what you're going to get.”

Last year, Kinsey also shared that her kids have begun to watch The Office with her. She shares Isabel Ruby, 17, with ex Warren Keith Lieberstein and is stepmother to husband Joshua Snyder's children — Cade, 15, and Jack, 17.

However, the kids don't totally love her character, Angela Martin.

“They started watching The Office with me, and they loved the show. They thought I was too mean to Phyllis. That was one of their biggest comments,” she said about Phyllis Smith's character, Phyllis Vance. “But then Phyllis did come for Angela Martin, too. They were true frenemies, I would say. They could not believe the scene, though, where she threw the post-it notes in my face."

The friends appear in the AT&T Business Wake Up with Craig short film, which aims to spotlight the day-to-day experiences of small businesses.

“It didn't feel like a job,” Kinsey said about working with herThe Office costars again. “What's so wild to me is how quickly we all just get right back in step, especially just how we are on set together and joking around. I know exactly what Creed is going to do with the script, and we just all know each other so well, and it was so fun to just get to play again. It really made me miss getting to act with all those people again.”

She added, “I see everyone from time to time, but who I don't get to see are the characters, like Dwight or Erin or Darryl, all those different characters. I don't get to interact with Angela Martin anymore. So getting to even kind of tiptoe in that world was so much fun.”
