Spider-Man: Why Tom Holland Was the Last Person to Read Brand New Day’s Script

Tom Holland has opened up about the unusual way he finally got his hands on the Spider-Man: Brand New Day script. He shared the behind-the-scenes story during a recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. The British actor explained how an unexpected phone call from his brother exposed what had happened
When Seth Meyers asked if the British actor remembered when he first received the script, Holland said, “Oh, yes. It’s a bit of… yes. I was shooting The Odyssey. I was working with Chris Nolan. And I was blessed with, probably, one of the best scripts ever written.”
Holland revealed he repeatedly asked Marvel Studios if he could get the Spider-Man: Brand New Day script. According to him, the studio kept telling him, “It’s not ready. It’s not ready. We’ll send it to you when it’s ready.”
The British actor revealed that many members of the production had read the script before he did. Holland said, “My brother, Paddy, worked on the film in the art department, and he called me up one day, and he was like, ‘Bro, the script is so good.’ I was like, ‘What are you talking about? The script is so good?’ And he goes, ‘I’ve just sat in the studio. Everyone’s read the script. Everyone loves it.’ And I’d been told that there wasn’t even a script at this point.”

Tom Holland’s Box Office Record Sets High Expectations for Spider-Man: Brand New Day
The fourth installment of the MCU’s Spider-Man is on course to receive a huge opening weekend. Early estimates suggest the film would earn around $180 million to $190 million in the very first week. However, new projections expect the Holland-starrer to open with $230 million to $250 million at the domestic box office. If those numbers hold, it would come close to Spider-Man: No Way Home, which debuted with $260 million in 2021.
According to The Numbers, Holland’s three Spider-Man films grossed approximately $880 million, $1.13 billion, and $1.92 billion worldwide. Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently the highest-grossing movie in the franchise. This success has created high expectations for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
