Season 14 of The Masked Singer has crowned its winner
The winner tells PEOPLE about their experience and why they "didn't expect" to snag the top spot
The finale came down to contestants, Galaxy Girl, Pugcasso, Cat Witch and Crane
The latest winner of The Masked Singer season 14 has been revealed.
The Fox competition series aired its season 14 finale on Wednesday, April 1, and the Golden Mask trophy went to Galaxy Girl — who was unmasked to reveal her true identity: pop star Ashlee Simpson Ross!
Before the victory was announced, the “Pieces of Me” singer wowed judges Rita Ora, Jenny McCarthy, Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong with performances of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” and Pink’s “Try” throughout the finale episode.

Before her identity was announced, Galaxy Girl was joined on stage by Jessica Simpson, who shared a clue in the form of a book about the contestant’s life in an apparent reference to sister Ashlee’s 2004 debut album, Autobiography. The judges unanimously agreed Ashlee was behind the mask, and they were right.
Ashlee won over runner-up Phillip Phillips, a past American Idol winner who performed on The Masked Singer as Pugcasso. Kylie Cantrall finished in third place as Cat Witch, followed by Normani as Crane.
Ahead of the big finale, Ashlee sat down with PEOPLE to discuss her experience on The Masked Singer, how she felt about advancing further than husband Evan Ross in the competition and having Jessica there to support her.

PEOPLE: You are the winner of season 14 of The Masked Singer! How did it feel to make it all the way to the end and get that Golden Mask trophy?
ASHLEE SIMPSON ROSS: I mean, it felt so good. I had no idea that I was going to get so into this competition and so competitive. I was having the time of my life, first of all. But for me, just every song, every moment, and my team was so much fun to work with. I definitely did not think I was going to win, but I was like, "I'm here to fight and I'm going to try." And my last song was “Try.” But the second they said I won, I dropped to my knees, because I didn't expect it. So it was really fun.
PEOPLE: Your sister Jessica showed up to support you in the finale. How did it feel to have her there by your side, as she’s been your whole life?
SIMPSON: It was amazing to have her there — so exciting. She knew how hard I had been working, and it was like Masked Singer bootcamp. A lot of work goes into this show, and it's so fun, but it is song after song. You're in these intense, fun rehearsals and you have that mask on all day. It's so interesting. Just to have her there rooting me on was really exciting. And my daughter was there as well, so that was fun.

PEOPLE: And you beat out your husband, Evan Ross, who competed as Stingray this season and was eliminated in week 10.

SIMPSON: He was amazing. And it's actually funny, we weren't allowed to see each other at all. There are major rules, which was so interesting, because you're like, "How was your performance?" He killed it and he really had the moves. Stingray had the moves.
PEOPLE: Do you know if your mother-in-law, Diana Ross, is watching the competition?
SIMPSON: Definitely. She's watching. Evan is sending videos, and [she’s] watching her son. He killed it. His vocals were amazing.
PEOPLE: It’s been a while since you’ve done a big TV performance like this. How did it feel to show off your singing chops without having to be Ashlee Simpson?
SIMPSON: For me, that was so much fun. I had just done my first Vegas run, and it kind of kept that momentum going. I think you can tell I'm having the best time of my life doing this show. I was really running around and I feel like I became Galaxy Girl and I had the best team ever. So I mean, it felt great to do it. It felt great to perform, not being able to see where I'm going. You can hardly see where you're going. I think just becoming that character of Galaxy Girl and people not knowing who I was, it was just a different way of performing that. I enjoyed that. It was definitely a moment of discovery.
PEOPLE: Don't you have to be glammed up the whole time too, because you never know when you're going to get unmasked?
SIMPSON: Yes. So you kind of have to keep your makeup going to look good under that mask, because you don't know what day you're leaving. And you really get nervous. I was like, "Okay, did I do okay? I don't know." And that was kind of the exciting part. Every episode you get to go to the next one was like, "I made it. Okay. How am I going to make this next one good?"
PEOPLE: The only time you're happy your glam was wasted.
SIMPSON: Exactly. And no one sees you, because by the time you're done on set, you're like, "Eh, I'm going to bed."

PEOPLE: This Masked Singer win comes after your grand return to the stage with a Las Vegas residency last year, and you're set to do both Stagecoach and OUTLOUD Music Festival at WeHo Pride in Los Angeles. How does it feel to be officially back in the music scene?
SIMPSON: This has felt amazing. Performing is my happy place, and to be doing that again just feels so nice. I'm inspired to keep playing shows and creating new music. And moments like Masked Singer and Vegas, and I'm looking forward to Pride and Stagecoach — those moments just make me realize, "Oh, this is what I love to do." I'm happy to be doing it again.
PEOPLE: Can you tease anything about what fans can expect next — maybe an album or more touring?
SIMPSON: New music is definitely to come. I want to dip my toes back into acting as well, and I'd love to do some musical theater, but just to definitely keep going, performing, and doing what I love doing.
